Product Description

Spathiphyllum the genus name means, literally, "leaf spathe", with spathe defined as "A large bract or pair of bracts sheathing a flower cluster, as a spadix." You're likely to know it as "Peace Lily". Its' widespread interior use is due to its exceptional acclimation to low light conditions. There are approximately 30 different species of Spathiphyllum, some are native to Central and South America. Interestingly, two species are found on the other side of the world, in Malaysia, and one is native to both Costa Rica AND the Philippines. A fascinating plant that has somehow managed to circle the world long before man discovered its beauty. Wherever it is found, it thrives in the deep shade of the humid tropical rainforest understory.
The Peace Lily is very different from many plants used today indoors. They let you know quickly when they are dry by a noticeably droop in the foliage. They'll bounce back quickly once watered. The proper time to water them is when the leaves start to droop, just alittle. They are one of the best low light house plants!

Still loving my Peacy Lily

I searched online for the perfect desk plant since my new workspace needed some color and life and read about the easy-to-care-for peace lily. To my surprise, they sold this very affordable and true-to-picture on Amazon and shipped directly to my work in great condition.

I've had my plant for 9 months and what I love is that even some weeks it's not looking so happy (my fault), just a bit of water picks it right back up almost instantly.

Item will arrive as just the plant, a handful of starter soil and a plastic base container, so you'll want to have another more decorative and permanent pot as well as potting soil ready when this guy arrives.

Please don't buy

Please don't buy. This is my first review ever @ amazon.com and will be the last one.
I never write any review however I woke up in the middle of night and I'm writing this. It's 3:42am now.
I ordered this peace lily with rubber tree from Hirt's Garden.
They look nice, however they came with mites and other unidentified insects.
My house is really clean and I have never had any insects in my home.
However from the day I got it (yesterday) I've been bitten by insects.
It's more than 100 times, all over my body from shoulder to legs.
It's horribly itching, so I woke up in the middle of night and found this mite and the other insect that I've never seen before.
I threw the lily and rubber tree out of the window hoping the insects would gone.
Again, this is my first time ever in my life that I have this insect and insect bite in my own home.
It's so itching. I'm gonna make a claim for this. It's really horrible and I'm still scratching all over my body now.

I wasn't impressed neither with the way my plants were packed nor their size and how they looked [Luckily my plants recovered but they still have some holes in the leaves and brown tips]. Wonderful Plant

I ordered this for my mom who is a shut in and wished for a plant to take care of. I did not have the funds to purchase a "gift" plant with a fancy pot etc. I saw this plant for a great price and took a chance that it would be ok. I ordered this plant along with the red and green leaf prayer plants. All arrived packaged very well. No dirt was spilled or anything like that. All three plants were beautiful, healthy, and ready to be repotted and take off growing. I still have them all in their original containters but will repot them soon. They are still looking great after being "home" for a few days. I would recommend ordering from Amazon and Hirt's.

Still Growing

I really think these plants are indestructable. lol It came in a box and at first i thought they were fake, but it turned out that they were real. Had the plants for over 3 months now and they still look great. They seem to do just fine without a lot of sunlight and watering. If you are looking for a easy plant to take care of then i recommend buying one of these.

Hearty Survivor ...... Doh!

Purchased 9 months ago, currently 16" tall and 28" diameter. Placed on wall between two windows and it has grown wide to reach the sunlight on both sides. Lots of new growth and a unique look compared to other houseplants. A bargain beauty that adds character to any room. UPDATE: repotted last spring at 12 months, very shallow roots, progressively grew less healthy. Tried various locations, light conditions and hydrometer for proper moisture to no avail. Gave up and sent to garden in the sky at 20 months. Was a great plant for a year. If I were to acquire another, I would not repot annually, maybe at the 2 or 3 year mark. Having such shallow roots the 1 gallon container ( with mild spring and fall fertilizer ) likely would have had plenty of nutrients and given more time for root system to grow before shocking by repotting.

Didn't expect much at first, but now I am amazed! BUYING NUMBER 2

I bought this tree last year to honor my daughters birth. When I recieved it in the mail, It was in good green condition and looked very healthy BUT it was tiny, it had one half inch leaf growing from the tiny stem. I thought "this thing will take forever to grow!" But I stuck it on an end table by a window and watered it about once every week and half to two weeks, I am absolutely amazed at how huge this tree has gotten! It's healthier than I ever though, It has probably 75 leaves on it and it approx. 2 feet tall. Which is great for what I had gotten. So, yes my inital impression of the company and tree was not too great but now here I am ordering my second tree for my brother for his 1st daughter as well. These trees have an amzing growing quality. I am not a huge green thumb person or anything, I simply watered it and stuck it by a window..I would 100% reccommend this company.

Hoya carnosa is one of 100 species of Hoya that are native to Eastern Asia and Australia. The this easy to grow houseplant Hoya carnosa was named for Thomas Hoym, gardener to the Duke of Northumberland at the end of the 18th century.

Blooming Time: Summer: Clusters of attractive, star shaped, pink-white blossoms are produced in summer. The delicate flowers appear to be made of porcelain and are truly unique.

Culture: Hoya carnosa does best in at least 4 hours of bright indirect or curtain-filtered sunlight. Night temperatures of 60 to 65 degrees and day temperatures of 70 degrees or higher are optimal. Water freely during flowering but allow the soil to become almost dry between waterings when the plants are not rapidly growing. Fertilize every 2 months in spring and summer. Do not remove the leafless spurs or stubs, on which new flowers appear every year.

Propagation: Hoya carnosa can be propagated at anytime by air layering or by stem cuttings. A portion of the stem including one or more pairs of leaves will quickly produce roots in water or damp sand.

This well organized and informative book covers 160 houseplants. Arranged in 3 sections - "Blooming houseplants", "Foliage houseplants" and 'Houseplant Care," the tops of the pages are color-coded for fast access. Plants are listed by their botanical name but you can look up their common names in the index or a Botanical/Common Name Cross Reference chart in the back of the book. Almost all plants are given a 2 page spread which includes a description, a chart with specifications indicating light levels, temperature, fertilizer, water and soil needs, repotting advice, longevity, propagation techniques, selection and display tips. A troubleshooting guide provides characteristics of what to look for if a plant is in trouble and what you should do about it. Plants with various varities, like bromeliads, bulbs, cacti, orchids, ferns and palms are covered in more expanded sections. The color photos (included for each plant) are outstanding. The final chapter, "Houseplant Care," covers aspects such as containers, fertilizers, insect pests, propagation, plant characteristics and identification tips, terrariums and watering techniques. While these arrives packaged well and healthy, they also had no identification so figuring out their exact needs is a little tricky. I received a small fern, a small palm, something that looks like blue cohosh, a green/white small leafy plant, and a white/green spade leafed plant.

Just what I was looking for!

I've been looking for the correct size terrarium plants for WEEKS. Then as an avid amazon customer, I came looking here. For how much time I've wasted driving around my city looking for multiple tiny plants, these were a great value. A little pricier than a nursery, but you'd have to find them at a nursery first. $4 a plant including the shipping price.

About the variety. I received a decent variety. I might order again to see if I can get any with color. The picture features 2 plants with red, mine were all green. However, no negative on that because they're all in GREAT condition and after all, it is a variety.

So, are you building a terrarium? Do you want multiple kinds of plants? Order these, don't waste your time.

How Many Times Can I Say Amazing!

I had no real idea what this plant would look like after I ordered it from Amazon. When I got it it was healthy, growing and already has 2 new leaves on it. I am waiting for the next 5 leaves to come up. I'll be planting it for this year in a pot but next year it'll go outside with my other iris plants which are regular iris and also some reblooming irises. This one will do well in the iris patch. Minor Assembly Required

Greenhouse Four-Tier Mini / B000NCTGQE

I bought this greenhouse to start seedlings in the house before transplanting them outside for spring, and also to host a little herb garden in the kitchen area.

Firstly, the measurements listed here are accurate. This is a very large unit, of respectable quality, and very affordable. I have yet to find another unit this size and quality online or in catalogs that doesn't cost twice this much. In fact, this same greenhouse is selling in some places for double this price, plus shipping, so Amazon has quite the bargain here.

Secondly, the greenhouse is incredibly easy to put together. We had it out of the box and set up in less than half an hour, with no onerous tools required. The shelves are a thin metal lattice, to let sunlight filter down to the bottom levels, but the metal is strong and feels very sturdy. The cover has enough lee-way to slip on and off easily, as well as ties to hold it in place, and extends well to the ground, to act as a barrier to curious house cats and naughty puppies.

However, and here's where I docked a star, some extra assembly is really required here. The shelves don't attach into place - they lay on top of the shelving bars, and it is absurdly easy to unbalance a shelf such that the shelf tips over and drops all your plants on the ground, spilling dirt and seeds everywhere. I had this happen and was not too amused. Don't let this put you off your purchase, though, as there is a simple solution: Buy some cheap cable ties (for example, Belkin 7.5IN Multicolored Cable Ties 52 Pieces) and use them to cinch the shelves in place. I used 6 ties per shelf (one in each corner and two in the middle) and the shelves are now completely sturdy and will never shift or move on me. And the cable ties are easy to cut, if you ever need to disassemble your greenhouse during a move.

So, bottom line, definitely buy this greenhouse for the bargain that it is and enjoy it immensely, as I am mine, but do remember to buy the cable ties (or something similar) to ensure that your pots won't fall and break.

Mini Greenhouse

This is our second of these mini greenhouses. The first one was smaller (3 shelves, purchased locally from our local nursery)... we used the first one for about 7 or 8 years, and it produced so many wonderful veggies and flowers for our garden year after year which we started in pots from seed. We simply loved it, but the plastic cover bit the dust, and we had taped it in several places with clear packaging tape to squeeze the last couple of years use from it, so it was looking ratty after 4 or 5 years of use. We could have purchased a new cover for it, but decided if we tossed the cover, the wire shelves would be helpful in our tool shed for storage, so opted for this new taller unit on Amazon (4 shelves) to use for starting our seeds again each spring. It is exactly the same as the first one we bought, except 4 shelves (taller) than the first 3 shelf model. We anchored it with a couple of bricks on the bottom shelf, so it doesn't tip over in high winds. We planted our seeds a couple of weeks ago, and every one of the 40 small pots of plants inside have sprouted and are already about 2-3 inches high (8 varieties of tomatoes, acorn squash, zucchini, cukes, and lots more, already looking great and should be ready to plant in the garden by the time the weather warms up enough.) The only thing that is a must, besides watering when needed... during warm days, open the front zipper, and roll up the front flap during the day, or your plants on the top shelf can literally 'cook'. We made that mistake with the first unit, and found if we just unzip it in the daytime for air circulation, and zip it up at dusk to keep the warmth in, it works perfectly. And, again, put something heavy on the bottom rack (bricks, or coffee cans filled with sand, or heavy plants, etc.) or the unit can blow over in a windstorm. Very easy to assemble. Very easy to use. We love it, and have/and would purchase this product again! p.s... final note: when our seed pots are ready to plant, and the little green house is empty, we use wide/low terra cotta bowls, add a few rocks in the bottom for drainage, add soil, and add romaine lettuce seeds. Water, place on the racks, and you'll have nice romaine lettuce for salads/sandwiches in no time. The bonus of growing the lettuce in the greenhouse is this: it is raised off the ground so you don't get garden critters/snails/slugs munching on the leaves. They are totally clean when you're ready to use the lettuce leaves!!! As soon as I use the lettuce in one bowl, I refill it with new soil and seeds, and keep rotating the lettuce to use as it's ready from one bowl to the next, and it keeps me going with lettuce clear through the fall til cold weather hits.

Just needs a few adjustments

I bought two of these at a major, home improvement store where I live for a lot less then they are here. I had already read the reviews so I was ready to make a few adjustments to keep them from blowing over & to keep the shelves in place. As suggested by others who bought this item, I secured the shelves to the frame using cable ties. Works perfectly & took about 3 mintues to complete. I then built a small cart for each unit using scrap wood from other projects, attached four casters to the bottom of each cart for ease of moving around my patio to take full advantage of the sun (or not). Then I mounted the units on the carts by drilling holes thru the plastic side frames and used two long screws with washers to secure each unit to the carts. I also drilled holes from top to bottom thru the plastic side frames & inserted a long garden stake, one per side all the way down to a hole drilled in the wooden cart. This added stability & the entire unit is weighed down by the cart so it won't blow over. I have had some very windy days & all has been well. We are still experiencing frost at night here in the upper midwest & I can easily roll my green houses into the garage at night for extra protection.
It is unfortunate that one has to make adjustment at all in order to make these mini-greenhouses usable, but considering the low cost compared to other models, I felt it was still a good purchase & a worthwhile effort on my part. I now have a whole lot of seedlings to plants & I am happy with the outcome.

puny but healthy

The plant was in a 4" pot, as described, but the pictures on Amazon are quite deceptive. This is NOT a full-grown plant with bunches of leaves - this is the baby sprout before that. It seems to be healthy, so I am hopeful that it will continue growing to develop into a large plant like the one pictured, but the largest of the four (yes, four!) leaves on mine was about 3.5" long. For $11.50 ($6 for the plant and $5.50 for S&H), this is a waste of money. Local garden centers sell the same plant in a 5 gallon container for that same price - much larger versions that you can take home the same day. If you live WAAAAY out - far away from a city - and can not get to a local garden center without great effort and much travel, then this might be a good plant to purchase since it does have hopes of growing into something more one day. If you live in a city and have a garden center nearby - go there first and stock up on much bigger, badder, better plants!

When the plant arrived the packaging was not labled in any way, "do not crush" or " keep standing upright". If this was done, perhaps the little guy would of had some limbs upon opening it. Badly Damaged.

different than I expected

It took them a few days to fill my order but once it was filled it arrived the next day. Came in small plastic bag which was flat due to shipping. Had my pots and soil ready to go so planted them right away. Perked up the same day and I have new growth in just one week. They shouldn't even be surviving in my climate zone(North West AZ, its been 110 in the shade the last few days) but seem to be doing ok. Only get alittle morning and evening sun, full shade rest of the day. Please do your research about these plants, very toxic, I planted with surgical gloves to protect my hands from possible sap. Can't wait for my flowers to bloom.

Beautiful plant, but NOT Miss Beauty

I had ordered the Miss Beauty Desert Rose. According to the picture, the flower clearly has red boarders with a distinct white center. I received my plant about a month ago, which came in decent condition (understandably most of the leaves had yellowed and fallen due to shock), potted the plant, and it has been responding well. Since then, I had ordered THREE more different types of Desert Roses from this seller. I have waited a month now for the plant to finally bloom (i live in nyc, where the climate is not ideal), and to my dismay, the flower is the usual PINK and not the red one pictured! I am going to give the seller 2 stars for now, as I am waiting for a response on how this can be rectified.

-UPDATE- The seller has contacted me in a timely manner and has offered to give me a full refund or to send me the plant I wanted at no charge. I'm crossing my fingers and hope that all will work out smoothly. From 2 to now 5 stars, I can't ask for anything more! Plus the other adeniums I ordered are all doing well, although they just haven't bloomed yet. If they all turn out to be what I ordered, I will definitely order from this seller again!

-UPDATE- This seller DOES NOT have different types of desert roses. All of the plants I had ordered, that have finally produced flowers, are the same typical pink flower! THIS SELLER IS A SCAM!!!

Quality Plant

When I ordered this product I expected a small root cutting in a makeshift shredded newspaper support packaging. Thankfully this was not true, Hirt's had an amazing treatment in plant care. My prayer plant was properly wrapped to prevent leaf damage and then filled with packing peanuts with a heat pack for shipping in winter. It was well established and actually overgrowing in it's 4" pot (could be divided into two plants)! I received my plant within a week of placing my order, which is twice to three times as fast as other plant growers. Also to this day my plant is thriving without shipping shock or any other ill effects. I will definitely order any type of house plants from Hirt's again.

Work Best For Me

Plant spikes have been around for just about as long as house plants have. They are one of the oldest ways of fertilizing potted plants as there is going. (Someone with roots in their blood once told me that solid fertilizer preceded the liquid variety by quite a respectable amount of time. The liquid variety being easier, but not necessarily better). A lot of folks don't seem to use them anymore since liquid fertilizers mixed with your regular watering are so much easier. My own experience with both is that the solid, slow dissolving spikes last longer, feed the plant the nutrients more efficiently over the longer amount of time, and genuinely do a better job of giving your plants the extra boost of good stuff all house plants can use. I am not a horticulturist and certainly do not claim to know this is a fact over a reasonable theory. What I do know is I have some the biggest, richest, and healthiest house plants I have witnessed among my many peers that dabble in the home spun gardening trade as well. I stopped using liquid fertilizers years ago and have had excellent results with these spikes. You thumb them down just under the surface every couple of months and watch your house plants love you for it. I highly recommend the Jobe fertilizer spikes, and, I also recommend that if you can't or don't care to locate them locally, that you buy them in bulk here on Amazon and make the shipping worth it. Made them part of a bundle package with something else and they ship for free at the time of this writing. Try them for just one or two of your plants and see if they don't make you smile...

Helped our plants GROW

We ordered plants from a shopping network OVER a year ago. Unfortunately, the plants weren't growing AT ALL. We were about to toss them when we saw these spikes. The plants have been growing like crazy. Took us long enough but glad we bought them because they have really worked. We bought two of them this time around and in a few months we'll order more.
